On October 14th, we kicked off Part 1 of our Business Basic Series in collaboration with Foster Career Services (FCS)! FCS provided valuable insights on recruiting for internships, networking, and leveraging Foster’s resources. Here’s a recap of the event:

What Foster Career Services Offers:
FCS provides a wide range of services to help students succeed in their careers, including:
Career Coaching: Personalized advice on resumes, interviews, and networking strategies.
Job/Internship Support: Guidance for finding and applying for opportunities.
Workshops and Training: Sessions on mock interviews, case prep, and resume reviews.
Networking Events: Career fairs, mixers, and meet-and-greets to connect with industry professionals.
Employer-Led Events: Info sessions, coffee chats, and informal interviews.

Sign up for FCS events like career fairs, mock interviews, and employer meet-and-greets.

Recommended Recruiting Steps:
Research: Learn about companies, industries, and application deadlines. Make sure to apply early; many business roles recruit 1-2 years in advance!
Prepare: Develop your elevator pitch, update your resume and LinkedIn, and practice interview stories.
Attend: Go to info sessions, career fairs, and networking events.
Submit: Apply before deadlines and always submit documents as PDFs to avoid formatting issues.

30-Minute Coaching Appointments: Meet one-on-one with a Foster Career Coach to get personalized advice! Available to schedule in person (FNDR 230) or virtually on Zoom!
15-Minute Drop-In Hours: Meet with a peer coach for quick career advice, resume reviews, and job search tips. Available Monday-Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Founders Hall (FNDR 230).
On-Campus Resources:
Husky Career Closet: Offers students one complete professional outfit, available at the Career & Internship Center, Monday-Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Professional Headshots: Available for UW students, staff, and alumni from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with instant email delivery of photos.
Yoodli: A platform for practicing and improving public speaking skills.
CaseCoach: A resource designed to help students prepare for consulting case interviews.
Foster Mentor Program: Provides opportunities to connect with Foster Undergraduate students for mentorship, academic, and career advice.
Huskies at Work: A mentorship program that pairs students with alumni for career insights and networking opportunities.
